My First Ever LEICA

The Q2

Am I a Camera Snob Now?

So I made the “big decision” but don’t worry, I didn’t buy a black turtleneck to go with it, nor am I dropping or “switching” my Fujifilm cameras for Leica. As a matter of fact, I'm done with the whole switching conversation. The reasons why I decided to move forward with adding the Q2 to my arsenal are completely different than any other equipment purchase decisions I’ve made in the past.

Less Is More

Don’t get me wrong, I love performance, sharpness, customizable dials and other specs cameras offer these days, but I’ve recently felt the need to slow down and simplify my photography and visual storytelling. I know a lot of you will point to the X100 series (which I’m a big fan and user of), but the Leica Q2 takes everything a notch further by offering probably the most simplified user interface (both hardware and software) with very few buttons and a bare-bone yet intuitive menu.

More Is More

Yes, I just contradicted myself. This 47.3-megapixel full-frame sensor that captures both highly-detailed still pictures and 4K video at ISO sensitivities up to 50,000 and, together with its Leica Summilux 28 mm f/1.7 ASPH makes is offering an unmatched combination. Straight from the first photo I took, I could see that this was a match made in heaven.

More Is Less

Starting to get the drill? Like if this wasn’t enough good points, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the lens had simple switching to macro mode with a close focus distance of 17 cm! This is one more lens that I don’t need to carry anymore. Given my intention to simplify and minimize the gear I’m travelling with, this makes total sense.

“Leica” New Day

That’s exactly how I felt holding this piece of made in Germany equipment for the first time. Here’s are some of the first images I’ve taken with this camera. I’m am still learning how to maximize my use of it and adjusting everything to my liking, but I can already say that I’m very impressed by the simplicity and results I’m getting with it. In the end, it inspires me to go out and shoot more and that’s all that matters.
