Mexico's pacific coast has revived our passion and love for photography
I’ve been to Mexico several times, but never on the west coast. That was until a few days ago when Vickie and I had a chance to escape the cold (and sometimes harsh) days of winter here in Montréal Canada, for a week under the sun.
We ended up choosing 2 locations for that trip: The little surfer/hippie town of Sayulita and Conchas Chinas, up in the mountains.
Both of these towns were great to revive our creativity and our love for shooting stories from around the world. The colors, the unique beaches, and of course the people. We celebrated new years eve with a bunch of locals and ex-pats at a local bar in Sayulita called the Pineapple Paradise with a Roots reggae band playing. It was just perfect.
For that trip, I wanted to focus on photography so I ended up bringing minimal gear with me. No fancy and big video camera, just 2 of the less bulky systems I own. In the end, the Fuji X100V (with a 28mm converter) and the Leica M10 with the 35mm Lux made the cut. Vickie on her end brought her Fujifilm X-E4 and her beloved Leica Minilux film camera.
It was very liberating to solely focus on photography and that might be a new trend for me moving forward. Worry less about “creating content” and focus more on my visual storytelling skills. Hope you like this little series captured in both cities. If you‘d like a print, let me know hello @ fredranger.com or here.
